A good story, full of emotions. Some foul language. A rather abrupt ending.

2003. A nice story of a retired executive whose post work life crumbles and how he deals with his situations. Jack does a fine job.

Jack Nicholson does his old guy act.

This is a touching (and the ending is utterly sentimental) film about a man life feels empty after he retires, but perseveres and eventually finds importance and value (aka meaning) to living. At moments its quite funny, there isn't much…

This movie is a little gem . Someone told me if you want to find out how long you'll be missed after retiring , take you hand out of a bucket of water, wait 20- or 30 seconds , then count the ripples.

Gentle warm hearted humour. Touching and gently funny.

Nicholson's understated and brilliant performance hilarious and tragically sad in turns. Valuable story for those who define their lives by their business titles or careers. It all ends sometime and one has to face oneself in those years…

It is a retirement life story, you may see it everywhere. You may never think it could not be a film story. This is only one kind of what director Alexander Payne’s films are. Mr. Payne did it so well to make a film out of ordinary…

I wasn't too sure about this at the start, but it grew on me. Nicholson is refreshingly unmannered. The director has drawn some very good acting out of the entire cast. I keep going back to the look on the faces of the bride and groom as…

I seen this 2003 movie years ago. When i seen it on the dashboard I ordered it again. Jack was overweight in this movie. Seen many towns from my former home state of Nebraska. That was one huge motor home. Scenes with Kathy Bates a…

A moving presentation that strikes a bit close to home for this 73 year old man, though Nicholson's character was only 67. A lot of the questions asked by Schmidt about himself and his life will probably be asked by anyone of our age…

Director Alexander Payne's films all expertly walk the thin line between being very funny and very sad. This film does it best and features great performances and a profoundly moving ending. I love the way "participant" ribbons are…

Top-notch acting by Jack Nicholson portraying a just-retired former insurance company executive, whose wife has died suddenly. It is about the realization that as a person one has not accomplished much in life, about loneliness, and a…

based on the trailer I saw, I was expecting a completely different movie. It was played with such straightforward simplicity that with a lesser cast it could have been a bad caricature. I think this is a very different role for Jack…

I saw this movie over a decade ago and Kathy Bates' hot tub scene still cracks me up whenever I think of it. Jack Nicholson makes me care about the curmudgeonly character he plays even though I don't have much in common with him. A sad,…

I kept watching and waiting for this movie to get good, but sadly it never did. I know I may be wrong, or maybe I missed something, but I was really bored by this movie.
