I read this over and over as a kid, and am now reading it to my son. Mary Call Luther is as tough at Katniss, but in a quiet way--she promises her dying sharecropper daddy to keep the family together, somehow. She's scrappy and tough, but their poverty-stricken life in the Appalachian hills is both beautiful and challenging.
The most boring book
I have ever read. Nothing happens. Watching paint dry is more exciting.
