"The Innocents" portrays modern-day Jewish life with both wit and empathy, guiding us effortlessly through a contemporary cultural milieu whose social rules, both spoken and unspoken, are just as claustrophobic as those of 19th century New York. Heralding the arrival of a major new literary talent, this irresistible story is a novel of manners for the 21st century.

Thoroughly unexpected enjoyment, can't wait for her next novel. Really enjoyed learning about the culture of celebrations in the Jewish nation.

A clever retelling of Edith Wharton's Age of Innocence, but not with the same brilliance. Wit and characterization are center stage in a story that asks the same questions about relationships in a modern setting. But really do we need to have everything made modern to understand what is timeless?

Disappointing; too lightweight. Good London Jewish background, though.
