I realize that my take on this book goes very much against the grain of the majority. So be it.
Findley is a very clever fellow. Perhaps a bit too clever for my liking. Not that I have any particular reverence for ancient biblical myths. The story of the Great Flood seems to appear in many if not most of the mythologies of the world's cultures, notably in Ovid and several of the aboriginal societies of the New World. I even just now encountered a version held by the Toraja people of the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. So my objections have nothing to do with religious belief. The Great Flood undoubtedly happened. Probably several times in various places. It's doubtful if any particular deity had anything to do with it.
My objection comes down to just two points: A. I didn't care in the least what happened to Findley's characters; and B. Most of the book is just plain silly, without the saving grace of being amusing.
Two stars for creativity, otherwise nil.

i first read this in 2015. i was taken away with the story.. the way the characters are presented is fantastic, given that Noahs family is shown as real and not mythical same with God or Yahwey. its is a fantastic read and i have suggested it to many others . all that i know that have read this have read it multiple times, retreiving from its pages a whisp of some thimg else every is particularily imformative on the last unicorn.. and how that came to be..

I first read this book the year it came out, and then several times again over the years. It is one of Findley's most powerful books and one of the most memorable books I have ever read. It confirmed what I'd always thought about Noah (and God), but then I'd side with animals over mankind anyday anyway. Findley is one of our greatest underappreciated Canadian writers. I recommend it highly (and it isn't his treatment of women you need to worry about, it is what he has to say about the cruelty of men that rings so true).

We read this in our book club and I found it to be a challenging read, it made me uncomfortable at times and pushed the envelope in the way it treated women.

this is a re-telling of the story of Noah Ark, but is a weird-twisted-sort of storyline. I guess the author tried to give the characters more individuality and a story to each during the craziness of building an ark and getting the animals on board. Overall it was an OK read, not sure if I would read any other books by this author though.

An amazing book. It will make you cry but is worth every tear shed.

A great book. Noah turns out to be quite a dick in this flood revision. Maybe he was.

One of my favourite books of all time ... masterful storytelling, stunning imagery and exceptionally good characterizations make this Biblical tale of Noah's ark a most memorable read. Terrific choice for book-clubbers.
