27-year-old Marilyn Monroe was actually a pretty good actress but that's not what most of us remember about her. In a room of 500 women I bet she would have stood out in a class by herself. The movie itself is film noir with mutiple victims. Poor Joseph Cotton wasn't her only victim. I thought the action scene at the end of the movie pretty good, especially for 1953 when the safety of the actors was less considered than the box office draw. I enjoyed seeing the splendor and power of Niagara Falls. I wonder if future President Kennedy was thinking about this blond bombshell in the same way he wound up in real life.

Ah! - Yes! - Marilyn Monroe and the color "hot" pink! - My-oh-my! What a perfectly delightful combination (which are so complimentary to each other and are so pleasingly pleasant to the eye). Yes. Indeed!

This enjoyable Technicolor drama (from 1953) is, without question, one of my all-time favorite "Marilyn Monroe" vehicles where (as an actress) her pivotal role as Rose Loomis (the scheming seductress) is to be taken with complete straight-faced seriousness.

(*As an added bonus*) - This movie also gives the viewer a really spectacular look at the Canadian-side of Niagara Falls (which, of course, is the best side of all).

If you are a total "Marilyn Monroe" fan - Then, believe me, you're sure to enjoy seeing her strut her sultry stuff here in 1953's "Niagara".

On a side note - Some years ago, I actually lived in Niagara Falls, Ontario for a number of months. And seeing this movie certainly brought back many of the good memories I had while staying there and enjoying the spectacular sights.

This is a 1953 crime-thriller directed by Henry Hathaway.
Rose played by Marilyn Monroe is a femme fatale, seductively dressed in tight clothes revealing her sensual figure.
The film shows the so-called Monroe walk, for which the actress gets world-famous.
Her relationship with George (Joseph Cotten) is contrasted with the more normal relationship of the Cutlers (Polly and Ray).
In the final scene, George steals the boat with Polly on board.
The police are notified and set out in pursuit.
The boat runs out of gas and drifts towards the Falls.
As they near the edge, George scuttles the boat to slow it down and manages to get Polly onto a large rock before he goes over the Falls to his death.
It is such a thrilling moment that you will get into a breath-taking sensation at the edge of your seat.

MM is hot, but the story does not generate as much suspense as needed, although it should have. Joseph Cotton was effective as the manipulated husband, the cinematography was great, the story worked, Jean Peters was great in a supporting role, but it all came up kind of flat. Something was missing that prevented this film from being very good or great.

Like - Wow!!... Marilyn Monroe has never looked hotter than she does in Niagara.

Man, Monroe just sizzles in this flick, especially in her hot-pink dress.

This 1953 Thriller offers great fun for the viewer on a variety of levels.

- Film Noir themes abound (albeit in Technicolor).

- Oodles of location shooting around Niagara Falls.

- And, best of all, Freudian Symbolism runs amok.

Monroe plays Rose Loomis, an unbelievably ripe femme fatale.

Niagara's twisted tale of greed and infidelity has the tantalizing Rose devilishly plotting (with her handsome toy-boy) the murder of her emotionally unstable husband, George. And, what better way to do him in, then a quick, hard push over, into the roaring Falls.

Adding to Niagara's thrills - Director Henry Hathaway does an excellent job of squeezing the most out of the spectacular scenery around Niagara Falls.

If you're a Marilyn Monroe fan, then you're sure to enjoy this seductively wicked flick.

Good story and excellent acting.
Marilyn Monroe was not just beautiful, she was an ace actress as well.

Not your run-of-the-mill cascade, this is an involving thriller with Marilyn Monroe in a serious role. The color is vibrant and the Falls never looked better. Recommended.
