I don't like period pieces but thought I'd give DA a try after watching The Queen. Late to the game but loved watching entire series on DVD with no commercials.
Well-crafted storylines of the posh upper class coming to grips with post-WWI changes, including the changes for their working class servants, eager to move ahead. Gorgeous surroundings and a peek into a now-gone lifestyle.
I was sad that this is the last season, but loved it just the same.
While I enjoyed the series, this season was a big disappointment. Henry Talbot, really?? There was zero chemistry, and it felt so forced. Everything ended "perfectly," which is to say, it is not worth watching b/c you will just eye roll your way through.
A trite end to a great series. Filled with sympathetic characters and enveloping settings a satisfying end to six years.
Good conclusion to this series. Sometimes series end with unresolved issues, but I thought they did a good job of getting everyone settled. By the end, I was quite bored with Mary and her snobbish attitude and her dull love life. At least the Upstairs came through in the end visiting Ms. Patnow in her house of ill repute and getting Carson & Ms. Hughes settled. Even got cranky Barrow settled. Glad to see Edith wed. Anna & John have a baby, Carson & Ms. Hughs married. Even a new dog! Great series to the end.
I loved this final season, the first couple episodes were not as entertaining as I expected but just kept getting better and better...great for long-time fans of the television series!
I don't know something about the final episode was anti-climactic. Maybe, I just couldn't believe something positive was going to happen to Edith! Overall, it was a phenomenal series and I am sad to see it over. I am definitely going to miss it.
July 12 2016.....Sigh, it's over. What a beautiful ride. Think I'll take this trip again someday. At least they gave me some hints for other series to check out. I know I used to watch the old Poldark on PBS about 30 years ago, (Has it been that long? Yikes, yes it has!) I used to be glued to the time slot, and would kick myself if I missed one. Love DVD's from the library, technology is not all bad....ha! Onward to my life again after an enjoyable binge weekend through Tuesday!
