Nicolle's stellar White House career was derailed by her attempted handling of Sarah Palin and subsequent cooperation with the book Game Change (the McCain family never forgave her and didn't invite her to John's funeral). Before she re-launched herself as a popular host on MSNBC, she wrote a trilogy about powerful women surviving and thriving in DC , including a female president, Chief of Staff, and White House correspondent.

The first book, Eighteen Acres, is SO much fun - like being a fly on the wall at the White House as the characters face a variety of crises and a re-election campaign. I couldn't put it down! If you're a political junkie or a fan of Nicolle and her smart, funny Deadline White House show, I can't recommend it highly enough. (PS - She left the Republican Party after Trump's election, but was a contributor to MSNBC well before that.)

The first in a trilogy written by MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace after her stint as George W. Bush's communications director and before her failed stint on the View.

I loved the fantasy of women running the government and was fascinated by the behind-the-scenes intrigue which is probably more fact than fiction. Charlotte Kramer is POTUS; Melanie Kingston is her chief of staff. Dale Smith is a political reporter/weekend anchor who is having an affair with the First Husband.

As Charlotte's first term is drawing to a close, her vice president retires. She reaches across the aisle to pick NY's attorney general to be her running mate (the author's wish that John McCain had picked Joe Lieberman rather than Sarah Palin?). Is Tara Meyers a nod to Sarah Palin? Is Melanie's character based on the author? Is Charlotte based on Hillary Clinton? Is Dale based on Monica Lewinsky?

This story, written by a former White House insider, is about three women. The president, her chief of staff and a network news star. It's told in alternating chapters from alternating points of view. A catastrophic event on a trip to Afghanistan is the centerpiece of the book and changes everything. A pretty good story if you can get over the fact that the women are all attractive and always wearing designer clothes. At times, predictably, the men in the story just can't handle playing second fiddle to strong women dedicated to their careers. The men in the story are not fully formed as characters but this is a story about women. In this book the women kick butt and get the job done. Who needs men?

Highly recommend this amazing book. Ins and outs of those around the president - a female president at that - were truely fascinating. Loved the perspective of the "first husband".
