"Turning the envelope over, his hand trembling, Harry saw a purple wax seal bearing a coat of arms; a lion, an eagle, a badger and a snake surrounding a large letter 'H'."
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

I LOVE the Harry Potter series! But I wish there would be other Wizarding World books.

Rereading the Harry Potter books is the ultimate comfort read for me. While this one lacks the finesse of some of her later books, it's full of exuberant charm. A great first book in the series.

Orphaned as a child, Harry Potter goes to live with his aunt and uncle, where he is treated poorly and neglected. He is rescued and sent to study at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Wonderfully told in audio as well.

This novel is about a young orphan who discovers that he is a wizard and begins his first year at a wizarding high school. Although he escapes his poor life as an orphan, he encounters more trouble as he is introduced to the world of magic.
The writing of this book and series is nothing short of brilliant. The depth and detail that J.K. Rowling goes into to form a connection between the characters and audience, is extraordinary. I highly recommend this book, as there truly is something for everyone.

This story is about a boy named Harry Potter who lost his parents when he was just a baby. On his eleventh birthday, he finds out that he is a wizard. This story follows us through the new and exciting world of magic and wizardry.
I really enjoyed this story because I found the world of magic and wizardry very interesting. We are introduced to many different individuals. To think that there is a whole other secret wizard world makes the story quite fun to read. On the other hand, in my personal opinion, there were some aspects of the story that lost my attention and made me want to stop reading. Overall, I think that this was a fun book to read and I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in reading something adventurous.

Picked this up from “Banned -Blind Date With a Book”. I have read before, but reread and I loved it just as much as I did the first time. It is my favourite book of the series. Young or old this book is great....READ Banned books!

Twin: "I'm not Fred, I'm George. Honestly, woman, you call yourself our mother? Can't you tell I'm George"
Mrs Weasley: "Sorry, George, dear."
Twin: "Only joking, I am Fred."

(Twins Fred and George have letters on the front of their knitted Christmas sweaters. Ron doesn't)
George: You haven't got a letter on yours, Ron. I suppose Mum thinks you don't forget your name. But we're not stupid. We know our names are Gred and Forge.

Harry Potter never seemed to fit in anywhere. As an orphan who lived with his cousin, aunt, and uncle, he didn’t even really have a family. He had nothing, that is, until someone showed him a world of magic, literally. On a dark and stormy night, on the floor of a hut in the middle of the ocean, Harry Potter heard a strange creaking at the door. It was early in the morning on his eleventh birthday and his aunt and uncle had taken him off the map, made him untrackable by those trying to contact him. Still, Hagrid, the headmaster of Hogwarts’ trusted friend, arrived and took Harry away to where he belonged as a wizard, the wizarding world.

A month later, Harry was on the train to Hogwarts, then he was at Hogwarts, and before he knew it, Christmas had arrived. By then, Harry and his best friends, Hermione and Ron, were searching for the identity of the mysterious Nicolas Flamel, for this would answer their bigger question: what was under the trapdoor on the forbidden third floor? Eventually they found their answer. Believing their evil professor, Severus Snape, was after the precious object to help a truly dangerous entity, they set off for the adventure of a lifetime. What they found under the trapdoor was more than they had bargained for.

As a lifelong Harry Potter fan, or Potterhead, I greatly enjoyed reading the first book in J.k. Rowling’s famous series again. Knowing the entire story by heart, I loved finding little easter eggs, pieces of foreshadowing, or underlying metaphors. This book would rank high on my ten 25 favorite books, without hesitation. I recognize now how quickly the story moves along compared to the other books. The stories became more developed as the each book came out. Having read the other six books, I want to know more about Harry’s first year at Hogwarts. That is the only fault I can find in this wonderful novel.

I have and always will recommend this entire series to anyone. Harry and his friends are so relatable, so human, that the reader feels as though they are part of the fantastic trios. The incredible story is so transporting, one might actually believe they have entered the wizarding world, and long for it as much as Harry when they are away from it. Every part of the story are compelling in different ways. It is a great birthday present to start someone on this awesome series. It has something for everyone.

What did Harry Potter know about magic? He was stuck living with the decidedly un-magical Dursleys, who hated him. He slept in a closet and ate their leftovers. But an owl messenger changes all that, with an invitation to attend the Hogwarts School for Wizards and Witches, where it turns out Harry is already famous...

Many strange things happened in Harry's life that he couldn't explain, until his 11th birthday when he found out he was a wizard. Against his aunt's and uncle's wishes he was sent to Hogwarts and had many daring adventures through out the year. Including something about Nicholas Flamel and the Sorcerer's Stone...

The novel opens with a description of the Dursley family, a middle-class family that lives in Little Whinging, Surrey. Vernon and Petunia Dursley are constantly worried that someone will find out about Petunia’s decidedly “unDursleyish” witch sister, Lily, and their worries are justified when Lily’s infant son, Harry, is left on their doorstep. Lily and her husband, James Potter, had been murdered by the dark wizard, Voldemort, but when Voldemort attempted to kill Harry, his power somehow broke. Harry becomes the only living person ever to survive the killing curse, and the only sign of his encounter with Voldemort is a unique lightning bolt-shaped scar on his forehead. Because Harry does not have any other living relatives, Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, decides to leave him with the Dursleys until he is old enough to attend Hogwarts.

The story starts with the introduction of Harry Potter, the protagonist of the story. Harry is the sole survivor of the fatal car accident that killed his parents- or so he is told. Harry is forced to stay with his aunt, uncle, and cousin, and lived a miserable life right up until his 11th birthday, when a mysterious figure shows up, and reveals to Harry about what he truly is; the secret that his surviving family members had kept secret for so long. He is a wizard! With his new identity, he attends a school for wizards and witches, and makes new friends. He also finds out the real truth of his parent's death, and gets involved in a suspicious plot involving the attempted robbery of a very valuable object. What will become of him? What is the object so special that everyone wants to steal it? This book is about true friendship, loyalty, adventure, and is a notable book for anyone who enjoys magical adventures.
