In this book, Bonnie dives into all-thing-swimming. I learned about people who are not so well known among ordinary people yet are the heroes, masters, and coaches of swimming. Bonnie writes her interviews and interactions with these people, intertwined with her own swimming life. The book is filled with her love of swimming. I loved the objective part of the book - about swimming heroes and samurai swimming. This takes up about the first two third of the book. The last one third is more poetic with a ton of references to literatures that mention swimming. I drifted off at this part. Maybe people who are more romantic than I will enjoy this part and embrace the book as a whole.

Definitely a bittersweet read in the time of COVID-19 when our pools are closed and outdoor swimming is off the table (for me, it's 35 degrees outside right now!). Nonetheless, this is a fascinating look at one of my favorite activities.
