Anne Hillerman has taken up the mantle in continuing the Leaphorn and Chee series. She is excellent. One of the facts of the mystery series that I love best is that she has allowed the main characters to age. In many series, the protagonist never gets older with all the possible infirmities. I love to be able to keep following this Navajo centered set.. Kristi & Abby Tabby

The three detectives - Chee, Leaphorn, Manuelito - are asked to solve three crimes in the Flagstaff / Winslow region of Arizona. All are solved. Somewhat pedestrian writing.

Anne Hillerman's "Leaphorn, Chee & Manuelito" series (begun in 2013 with Spider Woman's Daughter) just gets stronger. Those who loved Tony Hillerman's "Leaphorn & Chee" series will enjoy the large roles played by both Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee in this title. The setting(s) are vivid, the characters interesting, and the author's handling of multiple story lines sure. Anne Hillerman even manages to point a finger at the true villain of the piece: envy, and its' corrosive effective on family and community.

It seems that the older Ret. Detective Joe Leaphorn gets, the grumpier and thus more lovable he becomes. In this latest installment he helps a museum track down an extremely precious donation that has gone missing. Meanwhile, Bernie and Jim help to solve a series of burglaries, a shooting, and of course, a murder. As expected, the Four Corners landscape is featured heavily and contributes to the strong sense of place.
