Lady Bird is simple, an accurate depiction of the life of an average teenage girl living in a small town where nothing special happens, and yet through the realness of the characters, genuine feelings are created. The conflict is realistic, the depictions of mental illness are not broadcasted to the world, they are mentioned in passing and nothing changes about the character, because these characters are realistic. Some characters grow bitter, some grow more hopeful, the common factor between the two is that their progression is clear and the reasons for these mentality changes are explained. Overall Lady Bird is realistic, nothing happens, but you are taken through the life of a teenage girl in the most genuine way possible, and the bonds you form with characters are formed through similarities between them and the real world. 4/5 @Rook of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board The film Lady Bird is an indie style coming of age movie that centers around the final year of highschool of the teenager Christine. The movie explores a variety of themes ranging from exploration to complicated relationships. Lady Bird was not what I expected it to be, but never the less I enjoyed it in many ways. The film's writing and acting displays the feeling of embarrassment and the discomfort of teenage years in a way that almost feels nostalgic without being too cheesy. Although many of the characters may not seem likeable, the directors were able to display them in a way that is realistic to the lives of many youths. I especially love that the movie is laid out in a way that allows the viewer to discover the themes for themselves, rather than being given flat out, just like in real life. Overall, I would recommend this movie, especially for teenagers who are having trouble seeing a path for their own lives, just like Lady Bird. 4/5 stars @blissful_bookworm of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library Lady Bird, as she prefers to be called, is a very turbulent teenage girl who is ready to apply for colleges. She is free-spirited and will go against everything that her mother says, even though she loves her. Her mother on the other hand, is doing her best to keep the family afloat after her husband loses his job and she becomes the sole provider for the household. Raising children is not easy, yet this movie showcases the mother-daughter relationship in a very honest and loveable way. I would rate this coming of age film 4.5/5 stars and recommend it to anyone who has someone like Lady Bird in their life. @The_Reviewer of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library
